Background - Northway Bank is the largest community bank in New
Hampshire and the 3rd largest bank in the state. It has served New Hampshire
businesses and residents for over 125 years and continues to grow and prosper
in the region year after year. The bank offers a broad range of financial
products and services to individuals, businesses and the public sector from
its twenty full service banking offices.
Solution - Northway Bank hoped to reduce the number
of servers in its local data center and replicate those savings in its
disaster recovery site in the Southern part of the state, as a result
they identified server virtualization as an obvious solution.Virtual Iron
delivered all the functionality the bank needed. The platform combines
the latest virtualization and policy-based management capabilities with
an open source hypervisor and takes full advantage of the latest hardware-virtualization
capabilities built into Intel and AMD chips.
Impact - Northway Bank in New Hampshire is leveraging
server virtualization and iSCSI storage to create a flexible, easy- to-use
virtualized infrastructure that can support the bank’s growth and meet
the increasing needs of its internal and external customers. Together,
these technologies provide a stable, high performing platform that is
enabling Northway Bank to realize a number of important benefits including:
- 4 to 1 server consolidation ratios
- Optimization of its development and test environment
- Cost-effective high availability and disaster recovery
- Improved data protection
- Significant reductions in power and cooling
